Portable Solar Power, Purified Water for Disaster Areas

(Originally released June 7, 2011)
DTI Solar has just announced their new line of self-contained solar-powered buildings made from shipping containers. These rugged metal freight containers allow fast and easy transport to remote communities or disaster relief areas. The exterior solar array and satellite dish are designed to be easily removed and stored inside the shipping container. The following 20 foot long base models are available, but many custom options and features can be added for your specific application:

A. Disaster Relief Unit – Base unit includes solar-powered high-speed satellite Internet system with wireless router, six(6) laptop computers, fold-up computer desks for disaster relief communications, and a water purification plant. The water purification plant includes all valves, pumps, 1500 gallon storage tank, and filter plant with sand filter, activated carbon filter, and ultra-violet light reactor tube to process almost any water source including ponds, storm run-off, wells, creeks, and standing surface water. The purification plant kills all germs, molds, and viruses, including Legionella, Bacillus, Dysentery bacilli, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Chlorella vulgaris, Infectious Hepatitis, Yeasts, all Algaes, Aspergillus molds, and anthrax spores. Local sources of non-potable water can be easily processed into potable drinking water which elliminates the needs to transport large tanks of potable water or thousands of individual water bottles with their associated bottle waste. Options include solar-powered medical refrigeration unit, micro-wave oven, shortwave radio transmitter, and exterior light poles. Since everything is solar powered, there is no need for noisy and fuel consuming generators running 24 hours per day.

B. Remote Village Unit – Base unit includes solar-powered high-speed satellite system with flat panel television and pre-programmed course materials to provide both basis classroom teaching for children, and skills training for adults in areas of the world having no infrastructure or electric power. Multiple container units can be ordered with different features and linked together to create an instant school or field hospital. The large fold-up solar array provides a great shaded area for classroom instruction. The 20 foot long base unit also contains a solar-powered water purification plant which includes all valves, pumps, 1500 gallon storage tank, and filter plant with sand filter, activated carbon filter, and ultra-violet light reactor tube to process almost any water source including ponds, storm run-off, wells, creeks, and standing surface water. The purification plant kills all germs, molds, and viruses, including Legionella, Bacillus, Dysentery bacilli, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Chlorella vulgaris, Infectious Hepatitis, Yeasts, all Algaes, Aspergillus molds, and anthrax spores. Local sources of non-potable water can be easily processed into potable drinking water which eliminates the needs to transport large tanks of potable water or thousands of individual water bottles with their associated bottle waste. C. Custom Unit – Our in house engineering staff has over 40 years of experience designing solar and battery powered systems that operate without the need for utility or generator power. We can design and build a solar-powered freight container conversion for almost any application.
